I Learned a New Word — FERNWEH!

I post a lot of my travel photos on Instagram. I dunno but somehow editing them allows me to relive the wonderful experiences that come with a particular destination. The way I enhance my shots are based on how being in each place made me feel.

One of my followers, a Filipina travel blogger from Berlin named Krizz (http://batangbiyahera.blogspot.com/) made a comment on my photo of Ditumabo Falls in San Luis, Aurora. She wrote:

@talanyx11: Beautiful! — Fernweh!

And I was like… Huh??? Am I missing out on the latest, most happenin’ expression for the word ‘cool’, ‘awesome’ or ‘nice’? Haha, I was totally clueless. And so I Googled the word and here’s the definition I got:

Wanderlust is a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel or explore the world.

A contemporary German equivalent for the English word wanderlust, in the sense of “crave for travel”, is Fernweh (literally meaning “an ache for distant places”).

When I saw the definition, I couldn’t help but be kilig (excited) about it! It perfectly describes the feeling and desire that was just recently ignited in me! Coolness..

I WANT TO SEE THE WOOORLD!!!

So for all you travelers out there, remember this word… Beautiful huh? Let’s all embrace and satisfy our FERNWEH!
